Classic Homemade Beef Burger for Camping

Classic Homemade Beef Burger for Camping
Introduction
Nothing beats a proper homemade beef burger when you’re parked up at a campsite or cooking outside the van. This recipe is tailored for Cadac BBQs or any compact outdoor grill, and it finishes with a rich spoon of onion relish and a melted cheese slice — simple but packed with flavour.
Ingredients (serves 2)
250g ground beef (80/20 fat ratio is ideal)
1 tsp onion powder
½ tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 burger buns
2 slices cheddar cheese
2 tsp onion relish
Oil for cooking
Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, sliced onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard
Instructions
In a bowl, mix the ground beef with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into two burger patties, handling the meat gently to avoid overworking it.
Preheat your Cadac BBQ or camping grill over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the cooking surface.
Place the patties onto the hotplate or grill and cook for 4–5 minutes on each side, flipping once, until nicely browned and cooked through to your liking.
Once cooked, add a spoon of onion relish to the top of each burger. Immediately place a slice of cheese on top of the relish.
Cover the burgers with a Cadac lid or similar domed cover to trap the heat and help the cheese melt smoothly over the burger. This should take around 1–2 minutes.
Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill if desired.
Assemble the burgers with your preferred toppings and serve hot with a side of crisps or grilled veg.
Why This Recipe Works
This burger is fast, filling, and uses ingredients that store well in camper fridges. Melting the cheese under a lid using your Cadac or similar cooking setup makes all the difference in texture and taste, while the onion relish adds a sweet and tangy boost without needing a lot of extras.
