Roof Tents in Plymouth, Devon – Why More People Are Choosing TentBox & Dometic for UK Adventures

Camping has changed massively over the last few years. More people want freedom, flexibility, and a way to escape for the weekend without towing caravans or spending a fortune on hotels.

That is exactly why roof tents have become one of the biggest trends in outdoor travel across the UK.

From quick weekend breaks in Cornwall to road trips through Scotland and Europe, roof tents give you the freedom to turn almost any vehicle into a practical adventure setup within minutes.

At Colebrook CSC Transporters in Plymouth, we supply and fit premium roof tents from TentBox and Dometic, helping customers across Devon and the South West create the perfect camping setup for their vehicle and lifestyle.

Whether you drive a VW Transporter, SUV, pickup, estate car, or family hatchback, there is usually a roof tent solution available.

What Is a Roof Tent?

A roof tent is exactly what it sounds like — a tent securely mounted to the roof of your vehicle using roof bars or a roof rack system.

When you arrive at your destination, the tent folds out in minutes to create a comfortable sleeping area above the ground. Modern roof tents are designed to be quick, practical, weatherproof, and surprisingly comfortable.

Most quality roof tents now include:

• Built-in mattresses
• Waterproof materials
• Integrated ladders
• Ventilation systems
• Quick opening mechanisms
• Compact storage designs
• All-weather construction

Unlike traditional camping, there is no wrestling with poles, soggy ground sheets, or trying to find perfectly flat ground.

You simply park up, open the tent, and relax.

Why Roof Tents Have Become So Popular

Roof tents give people the freedom to travel without needing a full campervan conversion or expensive motorhome.

For many people in Plymouth and Devon, they are the perfect middle ground between camping and campervan life.

You still keep your everyday vehicle, but gain the ability to head off for weekends away whenever you want.

They are especially popular with:

• VW Transporter owners
• Families
• Surfers
• Paddleboarders
• Mountain bikers
• Festival goers
• Wild campers
• Dog owners
• Weekend adventurers

Living in Devon means you are surrounded by incredible places to explore. Dartmoor, Cornwall, Exmoor, North Devon beaches, and the South West coast are all right on your doorstep.

A roof tent makes spontaneous trips far easier.

Fast Setup Times Make a Huge Difference

One of the biggest advantages of modern roof tents is how quickly they set up.

Some hard-shell roof tents can be ready in around a minute, meaning no more standing in the rain trying to build a tent after a long drive.

That convenience is one of the biggest reasons roof tents have exploded in popularity across the UK.

They are ideal for:

• Touring holidays
• Weekend escapes
• Festivals
• Beach trips
• European road trips
• Off-grid adventures

When it is time to leave, everything folds away neatly back onto the roof.

Roof Tents Fit More Vehicles Than Most People Think

One of the biggest myths about roof tents is that they only work on 4x4s or campervans.

Modern systems can be fitted to a huge range of vehicles including:

• VW Transporters
• Ford Transit Customs
• Land Rover Defenders
• Pickups
• SUVs
• Estates
• Hatchbacks
• Vans
• Everyday family cars

As long as the vehicle has the correct roof bars or roof rack system and suitable weight ratings, there is often a roof tent option available.

At Colebrook CSC Transporters, we can help advise on compatibility, vehicle setups, and the best solution for your needs.

We Supply Roof Racks, Roof Bars & Accessories Too

A roof tent setup is not just about the tent itself.

Having the right roof rack or roof bar system is just as important for safety, practicality, and long-term durability.

We can supply and fit:

• Roof racks
• Roof bars
• Cross bars
• Awnings
• Side rooms
• Ladder accessories
• Storage solutions
• Lighting upgrades
• Adventure accessories

Whether you want a simple weekend setup or a fully equipped adventure vehicle, we can help build a package around your vehicle and budget.

TentBox Roof Tents

TentBox has quickly become one of the most recognised roof tent brands in the UK.

Their tents are popular because they are practical, easy to use, comfortable, and designed for British weather conditions.

Popular models include:

• TentBox Lite
• TentBox Lite XL
• TentBox Cargo
• TentBox Classic

They are ideal for everything from family adventures to solo touring setups and work brilliantly on vans, cars, and SUVs alike.

TentBox roof tents are especially popular with VW Transporter owners looking for extra sleeping space without needing a larger campervan.

Dometic Roof Tents

Dometic is already well known across the campervan and outdoor world for producing high-quality touring equipment.

Their roof tents are built with durability and comfort in mind, making them ideal for longer trips and all-season adventures.

Dometic roof tents are known for:

• Excellent build quality
• Weather resistance
• Comfortable sleeping areas
• Durable materials
• Practical touring designs

They are a fantastic option for customers wanting premium outdoor equipment that is built to last.

Roof Tents Are More Comfortable Than Traditional Camping

A lot of people are surprised by how comfortable roof tents actually are.

Being elevated off the ground means:

• No uneven ground
• No puddles underneath
• Less cold transfer
• Better airflow
• Reduced damp issues
• Cleaner sleeping conditions

Most roof tents also come with integrated mattresses, making them far more comfortable than many standard camping setups.

For many people, it completely changes their opinion of camping.

Perfect for Devon, Cornwall & the South West

The South West is one of the best places in the UK for roof tent adventures.

You can leave Plymouth after work and be:

• Watching the sunset in Cornwall
• Parked near a surf beach
• Exploring Dartmoor
• Touring the Jurassic Coast
• Heading into Wales
• Catching a ferry into Europe

Roof tents make those spontaneous trips far easier and far more enjoyable.
