Plymouth Safe Bus | Built and Upgraded by Colebrook CSC Transporters

Plymouth Safe Bus Returns to Colebrook CSC Transporters for Upgrades

The Plymouth Safe Bus is an essential part of the city’s night-time safety plan. Our team at Colebrook CSC Transporters originally built and converted the Safe Bus, and we are proud to continue supporting it. The vehicle helps people every Saturday night in Plymouth by offering care, guidance and a safe space when things get a bit overwhelming.

The Safe Bus is parked at Derry’s Cross from 10pm to 4am. It is staffed by trained paramedics, security teams and supported by taxi marshals on nearby Raleigh Street. Together, they help people stay safe and get home without trouble. With Plymouth’s three universities creating a lively night scene, this support is needed now more than ever.

Police Sergeant Mark Williams explains how the Safe Bus gives reassurance to anyone out enjoying the city. He encourages people to use the bus if they feel unwell, unsafe or simply need help getting their phone charged so they can arrange a lift home. The Safe Bus works alongside regular police patrols to keep the city centre safe and welcoming.

What the Plymouth Safe Bus Offers

The Safe Bus provides a friendly, calm space for anyone who needs it. On board, people can access:

  • Medical care from trained paramedics
  • A rest and recovery area away from pubs and clubs
  • Phone charging points
  • Drink spiking tests for safety and awareness
  • Solar power, designed and installed by Colebrook CSC Transporters
  • Support from security teams and taxi marshals

Community Support and Partnership

Since launching in 2023, the Safe Bus has helped hundreds of people. Around 90 percent of those needing help received treatment directly on board. This reduces demand on police officers, ambulance crews and hospital staff across the city.

The project is run by Best Bar None, the NHS and Western Medical Services. Support also comes from Devon and Cornwall Police, Plymouth City Council, the University of Plymouth and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. It is a true partnership focused on keeping people safe.

Built by Colebrook CSC Transporters – and Now Back for Improvements

The Safe Bus recently returned to our workshop for its latest upgrades. As the original builders, it is always a pleasure to continue improving a project we have been part of from the start.

This visit involved a brand new toilet cubicle. We installed:

  • A fully functioning toilet
  • A sink with hot and cold running water
  • A hand dryer
  • Strong, hygienic fittings

These upgrades make a big difference on busy nights. They provide a clean and reliable space for both the public and the staff working on board.

Why the Upgrades Matter

The Safe Bus often supports a high number of people in a single evening. Because of that, the vehicle needs robust and dependable facilities. Good welfare features help the team deliver quick and effective care right where it is needed.

At Colebrook CSC Transporters, we specialise in welfare vehicle conversions and community support vehicles. Keeping the Safe Bus in top condition is something we take great pride in.

Supporting Plymouth’s Nightlife

We are proud to support the Safe Bus from its original build to its latest improvements. It remains a vital part of Plymouth’s nightlife, offering safety, support and reassurance to anyone who needs it.

Helping to keep the city safe is something we are honoured to be part of.
